Vivah muhurat
No auspicious wedding dates in January 2026
Every date here is clear on the almanac — the nakshatra, the tithi and the weekday all agree, and neither Jupiter nor Venus is hidden by the Sun — but the couple’s own charts and the hour of the ceremony are still for your family astrologer to settle.
No dates — Shukra asta.
Why some months have no dates
Kharmas
The Sun is passing through Sagittarius or Pisces. This month is set aside for worship rather than for weddings and housewarmings.
Shukra asta
Venus is too close to the Sun to be seen in the sky. Venus is the planet of marriage itself, so weddings wait until it rises again.
Adhik maas
An extra lunar month is inserted to keep the calendar with the seasons. Nothing auspicious is begun in it, so no wedding dates fall here.
Guru asta
Jupiter is too close to the Sun to be seen in the sky. Jupiter blesses the bride, so weddings wait until it rises again.
Chaturmas
Vishnu is said to sleep for these four months, from Devshayani Ekadashi to Prabodhini Ekadashi. No weddings are held in this period anywhere in India.
How these dates are chosen
Vivah nakshatraChecked
Only the eleven stars the classical texts name for marriage: Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati.
TithiChecked
Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi and Trayodashi only. The Rikta tithis (fourth, ninth, fourteenth), Ashtami and Amavasya are rejected.
WeekdayChecked
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Tuesday and Saturday are avoided for marriage. Sunday is accepted in some regions; we leave it out.
Dagdha combinationsChecked
A weekday and tithi that “burn” each other — Thursday with Shashthi, Friday with Ashtami, and so on — are removed even when each is fine on its own.
ChaturmasChecked
No dates between Devshayani Ekadashi (Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi) and Prabodhini Ekadashi (Kartika Shukla Ekadashi), roughly July to November.
Guru and Shukra astaChecked
No dates while Jupiter or Venus is combust — too close to the Sun to be seen. This is the constraint that empties whole months of the calendar, and it is checked here.
Kharmas and Adhik maasChecked
The Sun in Sagittarius or Pisces, and any leap lunar month, are excluded. Sankranti days — when the Sun changes sign — are excluded too.
Your two chartsNot checked
Not checked. Gun Milan, Mangal dosha and the bride’s and groom’s own nakshatras decide which of these dates suits you. Take this list to your family astrologer.
The wedding hourNot checked
Not checked. Choosing the rising sign for the ceremony itself is separate work, and it is what a muhurat is finally fixed on.
Bhadra, Panchak, Vish and HutashanaNot checked
Not checked. These are windows within a day rather than properties of a day, so a list of dates cannot state them honestly.
Every reading is taken at sunrise at New Delhi (IST), the convention printed Indian panchangs use. A lunar day is an interval, not a calendar day, so a date near a boundary can fall a day earlier or later for a reader far from Delhi.
